Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) Massage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a specialized, gentle, and rhythmic massage technique designed to stimulate your body's vital lymphatic system. Far more than a simple relaxation method, MLD is a recognized therapeutic approach that effectively helps reduce swelling, alleviate pain, enhance immune function, and promote overall well-being. And yes, many find it profoundly calming!

Our Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) use light, precise hand movements, specific pressures, and carefully planned sequences at the skin level. This meticulous approach directly influences the direction and speed of lymphatic flow. The lymphatic system plays a critical role in your immunity, efficiently facilitating waste removal at the cellular level, and assisting with delivering essential nutrients and oxygen to your cells. The primary aim of MLD is to restore equilibrium within your tissues by gently ridding them of excess fluid and guiding your lymphatic system back to an optimal functioning state.

Experience MLD at Aligned Health to reduce puffiness, support your immune system, accelerate recovery, and achieve a deeply restorative sense of balance

Scar Tissue Release

Scarred Leg

When the body heals from an injury or surgery, it forms scar tissue – a type of fibrous connective tissue primarily made of collagen. While essential for repair, these collagen fibers can lay haphazardly across surrounding tissues such as ligaments, tendons, muscles, fascia, bones, and even organs. This often leads to uncomfortable restrictions, adhesions, increased pain, reduced movement, altered sensation, decreased blood flow, and tightness in the scar and surrounding areas.

Scar Tissue Release at Aligned Health is a specialized therapeutic approach performed by our Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs). Utilizing a variety of precise techniques, this treatment works to gently yet effectively break down disorganized scar tissue. The goal is to help realign collagen fibers, increase tissue elasticity, improve circulation, and alleviate the pain and restrictions associated with scar formation, restoring greater comfort and function.

Scar Tissue Release May Help With:

  • Reducing pain and discomfort associated with scars.

  • Improving range of motion and flexibility in affected areas.

  • Enhancing sensation in and around the scar.

  • Increasing blood flow to scar tissue and surrounding tissues.

  • Softening and flattening the scar, improving its texture and appearance.

  • Decreasing tightness and pulling sensations in the tissue.

  • Supporting the natural alignment of healing collagen fibers.

Myofascial Release

Gemini_Generated_Image_ifg9gqifg9gqifg9.png

Your body is intricately connected by a continuous, three-dimensional web of fibrous connective tissue called fascia. This vital system, extending from head to toe, surrounds and intertwines your muscles, bones, and organ systems, providing crucial cushioning, support, and flexibility. When healthy, fascia is relaxed and pliable, allowing for fluid movement.

However, due to factors like physical trauma (injury or surgery), inflammation, repetitive stress, poor posture, or even emotional tension, this connective tissue can become tight, hardened, and restricted. These restrictions, often described as adhesions, can create tension, imbalances, reduce mobility, and contribute significantly to pain throughout the body.

Myofascial Release (MFR) at Aligned Health is a highly specialized, hands-on therapy designed to alleviate pain and restore motion by targeting these restrictions within the fascial system. Our Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) skillfully locate areas of tension and apply varied degrees of sustained pressure, stretching, kneading, and gentle palpation. This precise approach encourages the fascia to release, rehydrate, and regain its natural elasticity, returning mobility, resilience, and optimal function to your body.

Myofascial Release May Help With:

  • Reducing chronic pain and muscle aches.

  • Improving range of motion and flexibility.

  • Alleviating tension and stiffness in muscles.

  • Correcting postural imbalances.

  • Enhancing overall body function and resilience.

  • Increasing blood flow and nutrient delivery to tissues.

  • Supporting recovery from injury or surgery.

Therapeutic Cupping

Therapeutic Cupping is an ancient yet highly effective technique that involves placing specialized cups on the skin. A handheld suction pump is then used to remove air from the cup, creating a vacuum seal that gently draws the underlying tissue up into the cup. This unique action offers a range of therapeutic benefits.

This process significantly increases localized blood flow, helps to decrease tissue stagnation, and effectively decompresses the fascia (connective tissue). It can also aid in breaking up scar tissue, reducing pain, and releasing stubborn trigger points (muscle knots). By accessing deeper tissue levels, cupping helps to stimulate the body's natural healing processes.

Cups are easily removed by gently lifting one edge or releasing the top valve, allowing air to break the vacuum seal. Cupping can be applied with varying pressures (mild, moderate, or strong) by adjusting the number of times the handheld suction is pumped, always tailored to your comfort and specific treatment goals. Your therapist will continuously check in with you to ensure the pressure feels strong yet comfortable.

It's important to note that therapeutic cupping may cause ecchymosis – flat, purplish marks on the skin. These are not traditional bruises (contusions) caused by trauma; rather, they result from blood being drawn into the superficial layers of the skin due to the vacuum effect. These cupping marks typically last anywhere from 1 to 14 days or sometimes longer.

Cupping can be applied using different techniques:

  • Static Cupping: Cups are placed on the skin and remain stationary.

  • Gliding Cupping: Cups are moved along the skin after suction is applied.

  • Dynamic Cupping: The therapist performs movements for the client, or the client actively moves their own body while the cups are applied.

Therapeutic Cupping may help with:

  • Increasing localized blood flow and circulation.

  • Decreasing tissue stagnation.

  • Decompressing fascia and connective tissue.

  • Breaking up scar tissue and adhesions.

  • Reducing pain and muscle soreness.

  • Releasing stubborn trigger points (muscle knots).

  • Stimulating deeper tissue healing.

Therapeutic Aromatherapy

Therapeutic Aromatherapy involves the skilled use of concentrated aromatic plant extracts, known as essential oils, to enhance the health and well-being of the body, mind, and spirit. These pure essences are integrated into your massage therapy session, either by stimulating scent receptors in the nose or through direct absorption into the skin when combined with massage techniques.

How Does Therapeutic Aromatherapy Work?

Essential oils work through a dual pathway. When inhaled, their aromatic molecules can directly influence the limbic system in the brain, impacting emotions, memory, and stress responses. When applied topically with massage, they are absorbed into the bloodstream, where their therapeutic compounds can exert systemic effects throughout the body. This synergy between the massage and the essential oils amplifies healing, relaxation, and overall balance.

Therapeutic Aromatherapy may help with:

  • Pain and Discomfort: Alleviating various types of pain and muscle tension.

  • Stress & Mood Balance: Reducing anxiety, depression, and stress, promoting a sense of calm.

  • Emotional Support: Aiding in processing grief and enhancing emotional well-being.

  • Sleep Quality: Improving symptoms of insomnia for more restful sleep.

  • Hormonal Balance: Addressing symptoms like menstrual pain.

  • Immune Function: Supporting the body's natural defense system.

  • Digestive Function: Assisting with digestive comfort and regularity.

  • Fluid Balance: Supporting healthy fluidic function within the body.

  • Cognitive Well-being: Potentially easing certain symptoms like those associated with dementia.

Fascial Movement Taping (FMT)

Fascial Movement Taping (FMT) is a dynamic and effective therapeutic technique that utilizes specialized elastic kinesiology tape, such as Rocktape. This approach is grounded in the understanding that muscles and connective tissues (fascia) work together in integrated chains, influencing our overall movement patterns and performance.

How Does Fascial Movement Taping Work?

Unlike rigid athletic tapes, FMT applies flexible tape to the skin and underlying fascia, allowing for full range of motion. The tape works by lifting the skin microscopically, which can:

  • Improve sensory input: Enhancing the body's awareness of movement and position.

  • Influence fluid dynamics: Potentially aiding in reducing swelling and improving circulation.

  • Normalize mechanical function: Supporting muscles and joints in performing their intended movements more efficiently.

This subtle yet powerful interaction with your body's systems can help optimize motor output and enhance movement quality.

Fascial Movement Taping may help with:

  • Improving sensory input and optimizing movement quality.

  • Influencing the perception of pain.

  • Improving fluid dynamics and reducing swelling.

  • Normalizing mechanical function in muscles and joints.

  • Potentially improving athletic performance and recovery.

  • Providing support for injured or overused muscles without restricting movement.

  • Assisting in lymphatic drainage.
